I don't sell art, 'I sell humour'.
Luis Alvarez makes fun, modern, fiercely colourful pop art and sells every weekend from Jubilee Market in Covent Garden. Bold phrases, antique images, and a whole lot of personality.
Art you read twice.
Luis's work blends fashion, comedy and self-love into short, loud statements. Some lift you up. Some make you laugh out loud. Some you probably shouldn't hang in the office, but he will dare you to.
Inspired by music, films and fashion, and by street art and painters like Jean-Michel Basquiat, he hand-paints each phrase onto antique book pages and antique images, so the old world sits right underneath the new one. No two pages are the same, so no two pieces are the same.
Anyone who has met him at the market knows the art is only half of it. Luis is warm, cheeky and impossible to walk past, and every piece carries that same energy. When people call them "signs", he just smiles and says: "It's art, darling."
In the studio, on the stall.
Phrase. Page. Paint.
The Phrase
It starts with a line. Inspired by music, films and fashion: something cheeky, something iconic, something you needed to hear today.
The Page
Luis sources antique book pages and antique images. The age, the type and the texture of each page become part of the work.
The Paint
Every phrase is hand-painted by Luis, never printed, then signed. Limited editions are numbered and finished ready to frame.

Every weekend in Covent Garden.
Luis has been painting and selling his work since 2021. Come and see the whole wall in person, flick through the print racks, and have a chat with the man himself.
They took it home.
